Have you wondered anytime in life about how you looked or why you are the person that you are? Why were you not the school topper? Why were you not rich enough? Why…? Well, here is the greatness of God! There is a scripture in the bible which quotes: “… the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” -Ecc. 9:11. What an awesome God He is!
But, based on the context of this chapter, some theologians claim that the phrase ‘time and chance’ could be bad luck and so it can happen with good and bad people alike. Bad luck? For a child of God? NO, never! The bible says: “…His favor is for a lifetime…” Ps 30:5. Favor is defined as a gracious act shown towards a person. So God is ready to shower His grace on your entire life. You may ask: Then why does the context say so? Well, that is to teach us not to depend on our own strength but on His grace and mercy. You see, again from the scriptures, we know that a just man may fall seven times, and rise up again, but the wicked shall fall into mischief even if he falls once (Prov 24:16). That is to say, your problems cannot finish you off, no matter how big or how many they might be. Your case is not as that of an unbeliever!
Paul said,”But by the grace of God I am what I am”(1 Cor 15:10). Today, in Christ, you are the person who you are because of His grace. Don’t regret for being who you are! God prefers grace rather than works. That is why the race is not to the swift! Got it? In other words, strong men don’t always win the battle! Wow! If only strong men were to win the battle, then God would have made you strong! If only intelligent people were to become rich, then God would have made you intelligent! See that? God is good, all the time! He wants you to win. He wants you to succeed. That’s why you are the person that you are. His grace is sufficient for you to win the battle even if you are not strong. His grace is sufficient for you to win the race even if you are slow. His grace is sufficient for you to become rich even if you lack understanding or the necessary qualification. Since His grace is sufficient for you, you are the person that you are. Thank Him!
