”Dad, what’s wrong with you? This is the second time you had met with an accident this year…you are spoiling the new car,” - I asked.
“Son, I did apply the brakes, but the car did not stop” –replied my dad.
“How’s that possible? You should have been careless and hence did not apply the brakes promptly at the right time” – I confirmed.
A year later, as I was driving my car (which has a six cylinder, 24 valve engine and better brakes compared with my dad’s car), a truck in front of me stopped unexpectedly. I always used to keep up a safe distance between the vehicles in front. That day was no exception. But to my surprise, though I pressed hard on the brakes, the car did not stop because of the slippery road. Alas, and you could guess what happened then! Crash!
A week later, my dad asked, “Son, why did the car crash? Did you apply the brakes? And if you say yes, then daddy will surely believe you because I too applied the brakes the other day but the car did not stop”. That day in my life, I made up my mind not to be quick to judge others. Never judge others with your own standards. Who knows, maybe he really applied the brakes!
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way as you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” –Words of Jesus. [Matthew 7:1-5]
